Instructions

Prepare the Meat:

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the Italian sausage and ground beef together. Cook until fully browned. Drain and discard excess fat.

Prepare the Sauce:

  • Add minced garlic to the pasta sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

Make the Cheese Mixture:

  • In a large bowl, combine:
  • Cottage cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese
  • Eggs
  • Dried parsley
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Mix thoroughly until smooth.

Prepare the Baking Pan:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

Layer the Lasagna:

  • Spread ¾ cup sauce on the bottom of the pan.
  • Place 3 uncooked oven-ready lasagna sheets on top.
  • Spread ⅓ of the cheese mixture.
  • Add ¼ of the sauce.
  • Repeat layers (noodles, cheese mixture, sauce) until ingredients are used.

Final layer:

  • 3 lasagna sheets
  • Remaining sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella
  • Remaining Parmesan cheese
  • If the sauce is thick, add ½ cup water around the edges of the pan.

Cover and Bake:

  • Spray aluminum foil with cooking spray and cover the pan (spray side down).
  • Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes.
  • Then bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This helps it set properly.

Notes

Do not boil oven-ready lasagna sheets.
Make sure the top layer is fully covered with sauce to avoid dry pasta.
Resting time is important for clean slices.
Use full-fat cheese for richer flavor.
